The Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986
What exactly is Prop. 65?
This proposition was passed in California in 1986 to protect the state’s drinking water sources from being contaminated with chemicals that are known to cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm. The standard hopes to reduce or eliminate the use of the chemicals in consumer products and requires businesses to inform Californians about the use of or possible exposure to such chemicals.
